DAKONG garbo, dili lamang sa Dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro kun dili sa tibuok nasod, ang Capitol University Glee Club nga maoy nakailok sa Gold Prize sa Pop Category atol sa 2008 Busan Choral Festival and Competition nga gipahigayon niadtong Nobiyembre 12-15, 2008, didto sa Busan Cultural Center, South Korea, bisan tuod nga mao pa kadto ang ilang unang pag-apil sa naasoy nga kompetisyon.
“We are so happy and proud over this feat,” matod pa ni Dr. Fe R. Juarez, ang Executive Vice President sa Capitol University. “That was the first time that the CU Glee Club participated in an international competition and this early, they already received very, very good reviews,” dugang pa ni Dr. Juarez.
Gawas sa pagdaog sa Unang Ganti sa Pop Category, nailok usab ni Ritchie Asibal, ang conductor sa CU Glee Club, ang pasidungog nga Best Conductor. Siya ang kinaunahang Pinoy nga nakadaog sa Best Conductor Award sa kasaysayan sa maong kompetisyon.
Ang maong kompetisyon tinuig nga gipasiugdahan sa Korean Choral Institute. Gibuntog sa CU Glee Club ang laing 40 ka choir gikan sa 12 ka nasod nga mingsalmot sa maong kompetisyon, lakip na niini ang nabantog nga choir gikan sa University of Kentucky ug ang Manado choir sa Indonesia.
Laing duha ka Pinoy choir nga mingsalmot sa maong kompetisyon—University of the East Choral Group ug University of the Philippines Chorale—ang nakadaog usab og top prizes.
Ang CU Glee Club gilangkoban sa 23 ka mag-aawit nga mao sila si (Soprano) Darlene Bacor, Retse Lorrain G. Beringuel, Charity R. Galola, Donna Jane R. Galola, Joan Rey N. Llanderal, Cherry Love Q. Lonon, Michelle P. Valmonte, (Alto) Imee Conception E. Acenas, Excelsis A. Betil, Jade Ann R. Maaliao. Lara Grace L. Ruiz, Richelle Q. Vicera, (Tenor) Shalimar Abago, Gerard Paul P. Achas, Joey C. Lecera, Clement D. Matias, George Mikhail H.K. Pagalan, Rian Virich B. Suan, (Bass) Edward S. Blancada, Jeson E. Buynay, Dennis G. Dagooc, Phillip Don A. Mecarte, Paul Ryan B. Rivera;
Kuyog sa maong delegasyon ang upat ka staff: Ritchie Asibal (choir conductor), Joseph R. Espadilla (tour manager), Arnold Neri (costumes in- charge), ug Cyrell Allan Russel B. Collado (choreographer).
Nadawat sa CU Glee Club ang premyong US$5,000 ug tropeyo, samtang si Asibal midawat sa iyang premyo nga US$1,000.
Kumingking lamang kami kon itandi sa ubang grupo. Apan ang usa sa mga maghuhukom miingon, ‘Look at those Filipinos, they are small, thin and look like high school students, but their voices are so powerful,’ matod pa ni Joseph Espadilla, ang tour manager sa CU Glee Club.
“Among the other competitors, including the other Filipino choirs, we were the poorest. We had to beg for donations just to get to Korea. When we got there, we didn’t have enough money. It was all pressure at all fronts. So it was such a relief that we won,” dugang pa ni Espadilla.
Nagpungasing mga mensahe sa pahalipay ang nadawat sa CU Glee Club tungod sa maong kadaogan. Si Gobernador Oscar Moreno sa lalawigan sa Misamis Oriental, mipahalipay sa maong university-based choir tungod sa ilang pagbuntog sa more experienced ug well-trained nilang mga kaatbang.
Si Mayor Constantino Jaraula sa Dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro, sa laing bahin, mipadangat usab sa iyang pahalipay ngadto sa CU Glee Club ug misaad nga iya kining tunolan sa dugang suporta sa ila unyang pagsalmot sa lainlaing kompetisyon sa umalabot.
Ang National Commission for Culture and the Arts misaad usab og funding sa maong grupo sa panahon nga sila mosalmot sa lain pang mga kompetisyon.
Human sa maong kadaogan, ang CU Glee Club nakadawat gilayon og daghang imbitasyon gikan sa mga international choir festival, lakip na ang Montana Music Festival didto sa Estados Unidos.
